
Senator Russell Feingold of Wisconsin State in the U.S. and the incoming Chairman of the Africa Committee of the Senate Foreign Relation committee has hailed Kenya's Constituency Development Fund (CDF) program for taking essential development programs and services to Kenyans at the grassroots level.
Speaking when he paid a courtesy call on President Mwai Kibaki at State House Nairobi today, Senator Feingold said the initiation of the CDF concept was a positive move towards ensuring equitable distribution of resources.
Briefing the senator, President Kibaki said the CDF program has facilitated the provision of water, health services and education in all parts of the country including remote areas that never benefited from funds allocation in national budgets.
He added that Kenyans appreciated the role the fund has played in boosting service provision and improving their lives.
President Kibaki also briefed the senator on the current rains being recorded around the country.
The President said that the current rains have adversely affected the country's infrastructure especially roads but the Government is doing everything possible to ensure the damaged roads and bridges are rehabilitated.
President Kibaki said the Government is also assisting communities affected by floods occasioned by the ongoing rains.
The President and the senator also discussed other issues of mutual interest between Kenya and the U.S.
The senator and his delegation are in the country on official duties aimed at boosting relations between Kenya and the U.S.A.
Present were Foreign Affairs Minister Raphael Tuju and the Head of Public Service and Secretary to the Cabinet Amb.Francis Muthaura.
